THIS weekend a group of Amanzimtoti Athletics Club athletes took part in the Varisty College multi sport 15km trail run held at Giba Gorge.

This is a great venue for both trail runners and mountain bike enthusiasts.

The venue offers a trail of up to 40km or shorter courses, a restaurant, BMX track, walking trails and secure parking area in a central location in Durban. The trail run comprised of dirt road single track, river crossings and lots of climbing. Unfortunately the markings for the run were not the best and the Toti AC athletes ended up getting lost and doing a extra 5km. A fun day was had by all with great weather

Four junior girls from Amanzimtoti Athletics Club competed in the annual Totalsports women’s race on 20 July and all collected prizes. Lee-anne Blake repeated her performance of last year when she was the overall winner of the 5km fun run event, this time at 13 years of age, winning with a margin of 2min 48seconds over second position. Lisha van Onselen, Hlengiwe Zuma and Storm Alexander competed in the 10km event and excelled by all finishing within the prizes awarded to the top eight finishers in the junior category (under 19). Hlengiwe ran her first 10km race, and all three still have two to three years of competition left in the junior category.

The Totalsports women’s 10km walk was a lovely day for walking and all enjoyed themselves. Everyone just saw the long line of pink T-shirts, as it was a pink drive for breast cancer.
