New on the bookshelves

A story of frustration and anger, depression, disappointments and dispair, but also of perseverance and acceptance, of love and serenity.

A wild youth, a bouncer, fighting, drugs, alcohol. Jonathan Street had done it all. Until March 2008, when he was convicted of murder and sentinced to 24 years in prison. 13 years later, after finding Jesus and meeting the love of his life, he was released.

Dr Garrath Rosslee was one of those who remembered Jonathan’s story, one which began with a violent fight in a restaurant near Kyalami in the northern suburbs of Joburg, followed by skipping the country and going on the run, and on his return, ending up in another fight, the one that saw him sent to prison.

Garrath, a consulting psychologist, turnaround practitioner and author, met Chrissie at a book signing. “Have I got a story for you,” she told him. “It’s about my husband. He’s just been released after thirteen years in prison.” She explained a little more and Garrath responded with “That’s Jonathan Street”. The story had captured his attention from the first moment he’d heard about it.

Now, Through the Fire – The Jonathan Street Story, narated by Dr Rosslee, has been released … a story of frustration and anger, depression, disappointments and dispair, but also of perseverance and acceptance, of love and serenity.

It has been promoted as a book to inspire and share the virtues of hope, daily discipline, the futility of blame and the power of love. It’s a read-in-one-go story (just a little under 100 pages), and is available for around R210 from Exclusive Books, Takealot and Amazon. Print On Demand
