Security catches meat shoplifter

BASSONIA – A man was caught by security guards at a shopping centre in Glenvista with stack of meat.

The 29-year-old suspect was spotted by security guards at Woolworths in Bassonia as he stole meat worth R452 before he attempted to walk out with it.

When security guards confronted the man at the exit, he dashed for the parking lot in an effort to evade arrest, but Woolworths security were too fast for him and he was caught before he could escape.

Mondeor SAPS Communications Officer Constable Mnguni reports that shoplifting is a major challenge in shopping malls and centres in and around the South, with one of the worst hit malls being South Gate shopping mall.
