BASSONIA – Unaware to them two patrollers from Glenvista Community Policing Forum (GCPF) were on the premises installing cameras when the suspects broke in.
The suspects tied the two patrollers up with cable ties and went in search of goods to steal. One of the patrollers managed to break free and phoned GCPF for assistance.
Within minutes patrollers from GCPF were on the scene, shortly followed by Mondeor SAPS and D&D Tactical, Chubb, SOS and Capital Air security companies.

The five suspects ran, jumping over property walls to try and escape but the patrollers and SAPS members had blocked off getaway points. SAPS fired a warning shot and three shots were fired by the suspects.

Three of the five suspects were caught on Basroyd Drive, Bassonia. One firearm was recovered.

It appears the two suspects who escaped tried to hide in a pool house on a property in the area. The lock of the pool house had been broken with a screwdriver and a screwdriver was found on the scene.
The three suspects who have been arrested were positively identified.
Mike Fontes chairman from Glenvista Community Policing Forum said, “This was a great team effort from all concerned. Romeo 72 from Mondeor SAPS made the arrests. The area is being combed for the two suspects on the run by SAPS members and patrollers from various security companies in the area. They won’t give up easily,” he said.
