Residents without water in Kibler Park

No water for residents as Joburg Water struggled to keep lid on burst pipes

KIBLER PARK – Residents of Kibler Park on Stamford Road were left without running water as all the fresh water was flooding the street after a second pipe burst on April 24.

Some of the homes near where the pipe had burst were flooded from their driveways to the front lawns all the way to the back yards.

According to a resident, Mr Lebinson, the burst pipe responsible for the water wastage was actually the second burst pipe in a matter of two days on Stamford Road.

The first pipe burst occurred on the corner of Peggy Vera and Stamford roads, which took Joburg Water almost three days to fix.

Not a day after the first pipe was repaired; the second pipe only one house away also burst, and residents were left without running water.

“They (Joburg Water) promised to put in plastic pipes last year. Right now the water pipes are asbestos pipes,” said the resident.

Cllr PR Representative Peter Stewart confirmed that he had been in contact with Joburg Waters Depot Manager, Mark Kruger, in attempts to have the matter resolved urgently.

According to Stewart, the delay in repairs was because Joburg Water technicians were waiting for a digging machine, which was being used at another site, to be returned.

On April 28, Stewart told the CHRONICLE that the asbestos pipes had been replaced with plastic pipes, and that the water was restored at 14:00 on April 24 on Stamford Road, which was the only street affected.
