Working together achieves success

After putting up with this for months images of some of the culprits were posted on the Glenvista Forum FB page

AFTER Jeanetta Taljaard, owner of Kumon Study Centre, Glenvista, and residents in the area complained about the behaviour of some learners from a local high school, she said there’s been a turnaround and the situation has improved dramatically.

The centre is on the corner of The Broads Street and Kirby Beller Road, Glenvista, and some of the high school learners were standing around outside Jeanetta’s premises, smoking and drinking after school came out. “As if that wasn’t bad enough, they were also smoking dagga right outside our windows and the smell was awful. I also found empty beer and alcohol bottles among my trees and bushes. More than once I went outside and asked them to stop drinking in public but their answer was, ‘When we’ve finished our drinks.’

“After putting up with this for months we posted images of some of the culprits on the Glenvista Forum Facebook page. I contacted the school, also Mondeor SAPS as well as our security company, who failed to respond until two hours later.

“We had numerous parents and other interested parties, including the school psychologist, contact us out of this posting. All contacts were very positive and supportive. In the end another security company, Protective Force from Brackenhurst, which also saw the posting, came to our assistance. They saw the complaints on Facebook and out of their own goodwill came out to help with the situation and is still doing so now. One of their vehicles parks outside the school and our centre most days when the learners are due out.

“Mondeor SAPS also came out and the matter was addressed from the school’s side. Since then there have been no more problems and I’m praying that this will be the end of it.

“At first, I didn’t want to make a fuss but it goes to show that if handled in the correct manner, most problems can be alleviated,” she added.

The school has been asked for comment.
