Another senior citizen dies during a house robbery

A group of house robbers once again targeted an elderly couple and killed a man.

AN elderly man (81) died during a house robbery when three men robbed an elderly couple and assaulted their domestic helper in Kibler Park on Tuesday, October 25. The trio fled the scene on foot.

A tearful witness, Wayne Lamprecht (51), who needed counselling after what he witnessed, was stopped by a screaming crowd opposite the house as they wanted him to quickly assist the domestic helper who was spotted crying outside the house.

Wayne said he jumped the fence, untied the domestic helper and walked into the house where he found an elderly woman (81) with a cloth around her neck. He said it looked like the cloth was used to squeeze and suffocate her.

“I rushed to another room and found the elderly man who did not seem to be doing well, so I quickly performed CPR but he still died. At that point it was not even clear to me what could have killed him,” said Wayne.

Mondeor police are investigating a case of house robbery and murder and have organised counselling for the victims.

Several months ago, an elderly woman was murdered in her home by a man who strangled her inside her house in Roseacres. And before that, another young man was chased and caught by City Power employees who jumped to the rescue when the young man snatched a cellphone from the hands of an elderly woman in The Hill.

A few weeks later, Queenshaven Old Age Home hosted an awareness campaign against the abuse of the elderly at the South Hills Recreation Centre, with ambitions to educate people about the significant roles the elderly play in society and how important it is for the youth to look after the elderly.
