Young scientist on the horizon
Kgaogelo has made Horizon High School incredibly proud and has worked really hard during the preparations leading up to the examination.
GRADE eight learner, Kgaogelo Bopape from Horizon High School came tops nationally at the Natural Science Olympiad 2016 on Thursday, October 8.
He was awarded as the overall top learner in the grade seven to nine categories nationally as well as the overall top grade 8 learner nationally. The Olympiad is an initiative of the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA).
About 25 000 learners competed in the annual Olympiad. The aim of the Natural Science Olympiad is to identify and nurture talent in the natural science field as a whole. Each school started preparing for the Olympiad at the beginning of the year. The national paper was written on May 12 and consisted of 100 questions.
Once the national winners had been announced, which took place on October 4 at Sci-Bono, each top performing learner from participating schools visited the National Zoological Gardens and the Sci-Bono Science Centre and thereafter attended the awards ceremony which took place at the Saint George Hotel in Pretoria on October 6.
Kgaogelo has made Horizon High School incredibly proud and has worked really hard during the preparations leading up to the examination. He received various prizes, one being a laptop.
