A community project with ‘sole’

SUE Lubbe and Friends, a NGO situated in Mondeor, is appealing to the public to support their ‘these shoes are made for walking’ project.

They are appealing for parents to donate unused school shoes to the project for distribution to needy schools. The public can also contribute by buying a pair of shoes for a needy child (all sizes welcome) and an added bonus would be a pair of socks too, preferable grey or navy.

Sue said that Christway Home this year assisted a young learner with a uniform.

“Thank you to the group; they are awesome when it comes to assisting children in need. We purchased a uniform for a young boy in Grade 10 who was desperately in need.

“We request that all shoes donated are clean and packed in a clear plastic packet with a sticker underneath to identify the size. And, please, if possible add a pair of socks to the parcel,” Sue said.

Also, winter is around the corner and the NGO needs donations of long grey pants, white shirts, windbreakers, scarves and beanies for winter uniforms.

“I met with a young mother that was nearly in tears. She has three children in primary school and used her year’s savings to buy their uniforms for 2017. Now she doesn’t know if she will be able to afford winter uniforms which, in her mind, is a lot more important for her children,” said Sue.
