SAPS: day cares must be vigilant

Police issue a warning after a woman collected children from day care after claiming to be their aunt.

BOOYSENS SAPS are warning all parents and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres to be extra vigilant after a woman collected two children from a day care centre after claiming to be their aunt.

The father of the children arrived at the crèche, only to hear the shocking news that his children had already been taken without his consent by their so-called aunt. Fortunately, the bewildered man knew who the woman was, and the children were found and re-united with their father.

Booysens SAPS spokesperson Cpt Lorraine van Emmerik informed the COURIER that a case of kidnapping was opened at the station after the incident.

Cpt van Emmerik also added that the management of Booysens SAPS is appealing to all education facilities to be aware of the danger of handing over children in their care to the wrong person and not to allow such an incident to happen again.

A woman has been arrested in connection with the case.
