Fund-raiser for victims of trauma

Community ‘hero’s lorded for fundraiser aimed at helping victims of trauma.

A GROUP, who voluntarily help people who are victims of traumatic events, met on September 17 to continue fund-raising for the Victim Support Unit (VSU) drive.

The VSU, which falls under CPF Sector 1, was held in the Barnyard at the Gold Reef City Casino.

The fund-raiser, titled Nineties vs Noughties, was aimed at assisting people who had encountered traumatic episodes, such as hijackings, by providing the necessary post-trauma help needed.

Transport Shadow Minister, Manny de Freitas, said the CPF Sector 1 was pivotal in serving Bassonia, Glenvista, Mulbarton and Liefde en Vrede.

He added that the VSU was run completely by volunteers and added a vital service to the community.

The fund-raiser would ensure that the VSU would run efficiently.

De Freitas said this kind of volunteerism was what made communities great and a simple ‘thank you’ did not seem enough for their selfless and giving nature.
