Arrest made shortly after serious crime is reported

Quick response from Booysens SAPS leads to the arrests.

Two suspects were arrested each for possession of unlicensed firearms, armed robbery and attempted murder in Booysens.

On June 3 at 21:00 the suspects entered premises in Mentz Street, Booysens, pointing firearms at the people inside the premises.

Booysens SAPS communication officer, Captain Lorraine van Emmerik said one of the suspects fired three times and one of the bullets hit a victim in the leg.

The victim was taken to the hospital shortly after the incident.

“The robbers fled and a look-out was given for the vehicle the suspects used as the getaway vehicle. The same night at about 21:40, the vehicle belonging to the suspects was spotted by the Anti Hijacking Unit of Booysens and the members stopped it. They proceeded to introduce themselves and asked to search the car.

“The members found three firearms in the car with serial numbers filed off and the two suspects were arrested. The investigation is ongoing and the management of Booysens would like to thank the members’ quick response in ensuring the arrests,” she said.

Station commander of Booysens Police Station Brigadier Hennie Jones said: “Booysens Police Station is dedicated to stopping the increase in serious crime in the area, and we will continue to protect and serve the community.”
