Kgomotso to show her resilience in the pageant
She wants to use the pageant platform to make her voice heard for better community.
Southerner Kgomotso Lerato Dhlamini is a mother, entrepreneur, student, and community development liaison officer in the substance abuse field.
In 2022 she was honoured with a humanitarian award in recognition of her selfless leadership and contribution to Ward 55.
Kgomotso said having entered Mrs Soweto has been a personal journey, which highlighted the power of resilience and the ability to overcome even the most harrowing experiences that life throws.
“Our communities are infested with social ills. The abnormal has become normal and our minds are screaming in silence.
“I entered this pageant because it is a great platform to elevate and amplify the voice that advocates for healthy communities. Having worked closely with people that are stigmatised, judged and discriminated against, I recognised that there are voids in people and it is important that the root cause of societal issues are addressed in safe spaces.
“This will help to find impactful, pragmatic and measurable solutions to social ills.
“As a young girl that has experienced childhood trauma, I have recognised the importance of empowering boys and girls with self-defence skills, while also providing children with practical tools to protect themselves. This is especially important when considering potentially dangerous situations such as sexual harassment.
“Through my social change movement named ‘woMansHim’ and through my participation in different platforms, I aim to inspire young people, especially the boy child, to rise above their past and embrace the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. Life must be a journey of bravery, courage, resilience and triumph.
“As a pageant queen and humanitarian, I look forward to working hand in hand with families, community leaders and various stakeholders to create safe spaces and opportunities that will bring pride, dignity, and hope. Wearing my high heels, I’m here to run for social change, I’m here to serve my community,” she said.
