Stay safe, get vaccinated: Ekurhuleni's response to the measles outbreak.
The City of Ekurhuleni is experiencing a surge in measles cases, with 80 confirmed cases reported so far.
In response, the city has launched a measles and rubella vaccination campaign for children aged six months to 15 years, running until September 12.
The campaign aims to provide a booster dose of the measles-rubella (MR) vaccine to control the spread and prevent severe complications.
How to protect your child:
• Take your child to the nearest clinic for vaccination
• Check ECD centres and your child’s school about consent forms
• If your school hasn’t been contacted, reach out to your school health nurse.
How to avoid measles:
• Get vaccinated: The MR vaccine is safe and effective in preventing measles and rubella
• Practice good hygiene: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
• Avoid close contact with infected individuals
• Stay home if you’re sick: Individuals infected with measles must isolate at home for at least seven days to prevent further transmission.
