No disruptions after Hoërskool Alberton light aircraft crash, says Education Department
Learners at Hoërskool Alberton are asked to bring their own food as the school resumes classes and matric exams following a light aircraft incident.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has confirmed that schooling and matric examinations at Hoërskool Alberton will continue as normal following Sunday morning’s light aircraft crash at the school.
Both the instructor and student onboard escaped without injuries after the aircraft made an emergency landing on the school’s rugby field before crashing into the tuckshop.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, said investigations into the cause of the crash are currently underway.
Chiloane assured parents that the incident will not affect the ongoing National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations or daily school activities.
“As a precaution, parents are encouraged to ensure that learners bring their own food to school while repairs to the tuckshop are being arranged,” said Chiloane.
The GDE commended the school’s management, emergency services, and aviation authorities for their swift and coordinated response to the incident.
