WATCH: Yellow Mountain residents benefit from health drive and shelter project

Church groups and the Sheriff’s Office offered free health screenings, family planning services, and newly built temporary shelters for elderly women during the outreach.

Christ Hospital Ministry, in collaboration with the Full Gospel Church, Hillbrow Community Health Centre, Doctor Darko, and the Sheriff’s Office in Johannesburg South, recently conducted a Health Awareness Campaign at the informal settlement of Yellow Mountain.

Residents were offered a variety of health services, including vital signs checks, HIV/AIDS testing, prostate and cervical cancer screening, health promotion, family planning advice, and immunisations.

Lunch was also provided, and the community expressed gratitude for having health care brought directly to their doorstep.

In addition to the health campaign, the Sheriff’s Office and Full Gospel Church undertook a project to provide temporary shelters for residents.

Yellow Mountain is home to nearly 200 families, and over the last five years, the church and the Sheriff’s Office have regularly visited the settlement to preach the gospel and distribute food parcels.

This time, special attention was given to elderly women who were struggling, with more than 15 temporary shelters erected to improve their living conditions.
