Learners, parents, and teachers at Lakewood International Academy donated essential care packages to the Orlando Children’s Home orphanage, teaching the value of empathy and giving.

Learners, parents and staff at Lakewood International Academy in Ormonde came together to support the Orlando Children’s Home through a month-long charity drive focused on collecting essential items.

The initiative, organised by teacher Shamima Khan, called on parents to prepare and donate boxes filled with basic necessities such as toiletries, socks and snacks.

The items were packed into separate boxes for boys and girls, with some families including personal notes and small extras for the children.

Principal Razia Adam said the campaign was aimed at encouraging a culture of giving while making a meaningful contribution to the lives of underprivileged children.

“This is about creating a culture of giving. We want our learners to understand that while they may be privileged, it is important to care for and support others,” she said.

As part of the initiative, learners will also be involved in delivering the donated items to the Orlando Children’s Home.

The school believes this will help learners better understand the realities faced by underprivileged communities while encouraging empathy and social awareness.

Lakewood International Academy, established in 2024, is an independent school that continues to grow within the community. In its first year of matric examinations, the school achieved a 100% pass rate, marking a significant milestone in its development.
