I have taken risks in my life that were frowned upon by my family, friends and acquaintances alike. Quitting a good paying job really meant I had to face criticism from all angles, what even made it worse was having no income for some months, which naturally resulted in ‘I told you so’ statements. I was told again and again that there was an oversupply of speakers, authors and other things I wanted to be and do. The names of people and companies that went out of business due to the poor economic conditions were mentioned as evidence that there was no chance that I would be able to make it. I however stuck to my guns and remained true to what I believed in.
I believed in my dreams and abilities against all odds and I have two major lessons I would like to share with you which I learnt through this experience:
1. You are you and your dreams are yours. God planted them in you when you were born, so chase them as dreams are the reason why you were born. Don’t be misled by the statistics and logic.
2. You will never know what’s on on the other side of the mountain until you get there. There will be tears, blood, bruises, criticism, rejection and everything that goes with it when you climb this mountain in search of your dream, but embrace them because they will toughen you up.
Whatever your dream is, fight for it with everything you have because if you miss it, all of us will suffer. Your dream is a solution to the problems of this world. So, you cannot be casual and just stroll along. You are born to win, never ever doubt that!
