“It’s not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about.” — Henry David Thoreau.
One of the most dangerous states in the world is the state of ‘busyness’. A state of busyness can cloud your judgement. When a person has not done what they were supposed to do, the state of busyness is blamed for this.
What really keeps you busy? When last did you pause and take stock of what you have been “busy with” in the past week, month and year? Busyness doesn’t automatically translate to productiveness. Many years ago, the US’s department of social service conducted a study by interviewing a hundred 25-year-old men who had all started even in life. One question they were asked was what they wanted to be by the age of 65.
They all said they wanted to be rich. By the age 65, they were all visited to check the results, which were quite astonishing. Only five were financially independent, another five were still employed and the rest were financially broke and dependent on others (social grants and family). So, what are you busy with? Will it place you in the first five (financially independent), second five (still employed) or right at the bottom (broke)?
Here are the five questions to ask yourself today:
1. Where was I ten years ago?
2. Where was I five years ago?
3. Where am I now?
4. Is it in line with where I am going?
5. Do I know where I am going?
6. Where exactly am I going?
Choose well, I believe in you!
