“The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.” – George Bingham
Courage is the door that can only be opened from the inside. Someone from the outside cannot open it for you, no matter how many people there are trying to push, they still cannot open it. You are the only person who has access to open this door from the inside.
Courage is the willingness to let go of the familiar, that which you have known and become comfortable with. Courage to me is to be able to realise things and situations that are hindering you from achieving what you need to achieve or become who you should be and deal with them without any fear or favour. This becomes very difficult if you are relationship driven. Being relationship driven means you don’t want to upset people, you want people to like you and even compromise yourself in the process just to keep your ‘people’ happy. You can’t be everything to everyone.
Life expands or shrinks in proportion to your courage. To have courage you firstly need to develop your confidence. I have learnt this in my own life especially as an entrepreneur. Courage is not waiting for your fear to go away but moving forward in spite of it. Courage is more like moving dominoes: you just knock one, the smallest one and then the other dominoes follow. Courage is what causes people to move, not certainty. Courage is living one’s convictions in the face of fear. Courage is about understanding that fear can be a speed bump but should never be a stop sign. So, it’s time to feed your faith and starve your fears.
