Thank you Ward 57, I will deliver

In my 10 years as a DA activist I came in contact with different kinds of people, I have been involved in various charity organisations.

I, Faeeza Chame (Fay), would like to thank the residents of ward 57 who took their time to vote for me in the local by-elections on July 2.

In my 10 years as a DA activist I came in contact with different kinds of people, I have been involved in various charity organisations, and in that time I was elected as the chairperson for Ward 124 and was chosen as the acting chairperson for the Democratic Alliance Woman’s Network. One project in particular was the Nomsa’s soup kitchen. What I experienced during my time there has pushed me to do more to help those in need.

There was one building in particular, situated in the heart of Joburg CBD, the Moth building; the people who live there really touched me; these are families that go many nights without food, not knowing what tomorrow will bring. There living conditions are from the poorest of the poor.

In experiencing all this hardship I saw just made me more determined to make a difference in my community. I would say to you today that is how I think about politics and the personal issues that people have and the value of acting locally to improve our lives and those of our neighbours’. It is one of the reasons that my focus is on the youth of this community, I want to bring back the values that we should respect our senior citizens and make Ward 57 a better place to live for all. My priorities will be to ensure that commercial development happens in a sensible way so that our heritage and culture is respected.

The results are clear warnings to the government that they need to have a serious re-think, not just of their national but local policies as well. As the newly elected councilor I will accept the responsibility wholeheartedly, and I pledge that I am here to listen in order to act and to serve the people of my community.

I will do so as part of a team that is focused on planning and delivering essential services to meet the needs of our growing community.

I would like to encourage more of you to get involved. Remember your future lies in your hands.

Once again thank you, thank you, thank you.

Councillor Faeeza Chame
