Makabu impresses with power punches

In a night of entertaining boxing Ilunga Makabu impressed with his powerful punches.
Triple Thunder boxing tournament took place on Saturday August 31 at Emperors Palace and was staged by Golden Gloves Promotions in association with Emperors Palace.
The tournament staged six entertaining bouts in which Makabu took on the more experienced Eric Fields from the USA in the main bout of the evening. Makabu from the DRC Congo retained his WBC cruiserweight silver belt after launching a massive left hook to the jaw of Fields sending him down flat on his back on the canvas. Fields took the full count from referee Robin Dolpierre of France at 1:59 in the fifth round to hand Makabu the KO.
The two boxers started at a slow pace, Makabu scoring with his right and left combinations from his southpaw stance to eventually get the upper hand over the American. The South Africa based Makabu who fights out of the Harold Volbrecht camp has improved his record to 15-1, 14 KOs and Fields dropped to 22-2, 16 KOs.
In a fight that lasted one round 1:58 Ryno Liebenberg became the new WBC International silver light-heavyweight champion. He recorded his thirteenth win of his career when he blasted Gabriel Ramirez of Argentina with his punches to the head bringing him to his knees, taking the full count from referee Thabo Spambool from South Africa.
The crowd favourite Nkosinathi Joyi also walked away with full honours when he was crowned the new WBC international junior flyweight champion. Joyi had no mercy with Benezer Alolod from the Phillippines outclassing him to record the KO in 2:48in the ninth round. Joyi who is also a former IBO champion came all the way from the Eastern Cape to entertain his fans with some great boxing.
In the South African light-heavyweight title fight, Johnny Muller worked his way back in recapturing the title that he lost to Tshepang Mohale. Mohale knocked Muller out in their previous encounter to take hold of the title. Muller answered on Saturday evening enforcing a TKO when Mohale’s corner threw in the towel.
In a junior-flyweight bout over six rounds, Thabang Ramagole against Meshack Mathebula by TKO in the fifth round 2:34.
