Local jockeys re-capture title
South Africa winning the International Jockeys Challenge over three legs.
JOHANNESBURG – Only 25 points was the difference at the end of the three legs of ACTS International Jockey Challenge for 2013 when South Africa re-captured the title.
The International Jockeys Challenge was held over three legs from Friday November 15 to Sunday November 18 where international jockeys competed against the Proteas.
Pierre Strydom, Anthony Delpech and Anton Marcus as well as first time honour for the proud duo of Sean Cormack and ‘Bling’ Khumalo were racing against the fame of international jockeys.
The South Africans were opposed by the recently crowned champ in the UK, Richard Hughes who led a strong line up including Jamie Spencer, Johnny Murtagh, Hugh Bowman and Gregory Benoist.
The first leg was held at Turffontein Racecourse on Friday evening November 15 where the International jockeys took the lead going into the next two challenges. The second leg was won by the locals at Kenilworth going into the third and final leg at Clairwood. The South Africans, however, just held off the strong charge by the International team to take full honours.
