Amajita sails into last 8

Amajita through to the quarter finals

South Africa u.20 – 0

Kazakhstan – 0

South African Men’s u.20 National Team, Amajita sailed into the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Cup taking place here in St Petersburg,Russia despite playing to a goalless draw against Kazakhstan during the lunchtime kick-off.

With both teams almost assured of a place in the last eight teams, both teams hardly created great chances, but it was South Africa who had Kazakhstan on the back foot for most of the first half.

Dumisani Msibi started in goals and he looked solid, as was the defensive pair of captain Motjeka Madisha and Maphosa Modiba, who snuffed out any threat Kazakhstan threw at South Africa.

In the midfield, Tlotlo Leepile and Pule Maraisane called the tune, creating some spaces for forwards Tshidiso Monamodi and Siyanda Ngubo. However, the tall Kazakhstan players easily dealt with any threat South Africa threw at them as the match ended in a goalless stalemate.

All quarter-final matches will take place tomorrow, and Amajita will only know their opponents once all Group matches are completed later today.

In their Group matches, Amajita drew 1-1 with Lithuania, before punishing Tajikistan 3-1 and drawing today’s last group encounter against Kazakhstan to end the group on five points.

South Africa starting XI: Dumisani Msibi, Kabelo Seriba, Motjeka Madisha, Denwin Farmer, Maphosa Modiba, Luthuli, Tlotlo Leepile, Pule Maraisane, Keamogetswe Boikanyo, Siyanda Ngubo and Tshidiso Monamodi.
