Leadership Academy introduces rugby
The school has entered an U/17 girls team in to the local league that is played on Friday afternoons.
THE BESA Leadership Academy is situated in Walkerville and is focused on academics. The school recently added touch rugby as a social sport, as there were many learners interested in playing.
This was mostly due to one of the teachers, Mrs Jacqui Botten, offering to coach the teams. Botten played provincially when she was at school and is the reason why BESA had the opportunity to flourish – and for four BESA players to be selected to represent Easterns Touch Rugby this year.
The school has entered an U/17 girls team in to the local league that’s played on Friday afternoons. During the third and fourth terms this year, they managed to ‘hold their own’ against schools that have been playing for many years and reached the semi-finals of the league tournament – which was held at Bracken High School earlier this term.
The educators hope to host a friendly tournament next year once the recently laid, 400 square meter field is ready for use.
