Swimmers enjoy good weather at open water swim
Sir John Adamson learners participated in the school's event for 2018.
OVER 2 000 swimmers enjoyed a warm and calm open water swim during the annual Dis-Chem 3 000m swim.
The Dis-Chem swim is also a Midmar Mile seeding event and many of the elite swimmers, such as Olympian Chad Ho and Michael Weber, also use this event as a prediction of where they stand in their preparations for the World Cup and year-end international open water swimming calendar.
Sir John Adamson School in Robertsham had their learners participate in the school’s event for 2018. Altogether 23 swimmers of the local school competed during this prestigious event. They were one of the top eight schools to compete at the open water event and showed their strength against schools such as St Benedict’s College (53 learners) and Redhill High School (50) and held their own.
Chad Ho won the 3km open water swim in 33:09 seconds in the 14 to 30 years male event while Michelle Weber was the first women to finish the same distance in a time of 35:40 seconds.
The swim is being swum in accordance with the FINA Open Water Rules. The age limit for all FINA open water swimming events must be at least 14 years of age.
The Dis-Chem Sun City open water swim consists of the 3km, 1.5km and a 600m fun swim. Various age categories are contested during the open water swim.
The beneficiaries on the day were Gauteng Lifesaving, Kidney Beanz Trust, Little Eden Society and the Masters Swimming in South Africa.
