The youth of Ward 57 and the surrounding areas showed strong support when The Corinthians hosted the Sports Against Crime Youth Day event in La Rochelle on June 16.
The community-driven event brought together residents and a range of stakeholders, including representatives from the Department of Health, the National Prosecuting Authority, the SAPS and the JMPD and volunteers from Shincheonji (New Heaven and New Earth) and Meals on Wheels.
Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame opened the event by acknowledging the efforts of Mlungisi ‘Jack’ Msibi, the CEO of The Corinthians.

“This day reminds us of the youth who marched in 1976 for the freedoms we enjoy now. We must honour them by continuing to improve ourselves. I encourage young people to finish school, find jobs, stay away from drugs and gangsterism, and take advantage of the opportunities the city provides.”
Xihluke Mabasa from Shincheonji said they are committed to helping communities through sustainable volunteering.

“We’ve been active in Johannesburg for over three years, doing gardening and donating food and clothes. We respond wherever we’re needed,” he said.
Coach Thandi from the Moffat View SAPS, who also coaches the police football team, said they were proud to support the initiative.
