Injured owls on the mend

TWO spotted eagle owls rescued by Centre For Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) in Warner Beach on Wednesday, 17 July are on the mend.

Two sisters spotted the owls after the birds fell from a tree in which they were nesting. Kim Young of Crow received a call at about 7.30pm and raced to the scene with a volunteer. She arrived to find the birds had been carefully placed in a bath.

They were placed in specialised enclosures and transported to Crow where they were examined and treated accordingly. The weaker of the two birds had a broken wing and has since been strapped up. “The owls are doing well, they are going for another vet appointment soon. The stronger one is eating well and is currently placed in ICU. We are confident she will fly soon. The weaker one, who I originally thought was not going to make it, is still in the clinic, but she is recovering well,” said Kim Young.

Crow currently has five owls in their care. They expect to have more owl rescues as breeding season has begun.
