Plan to save yellowwood tree from threat

NATALIE Rowles of Future Forests Ikusasa Ihlathi organisation asks residents of Yellowwood Park to donate yellowwood tree saplings growing on their verges.

Residents are urged to inform their gardeners to not mow them, instead they should contact the organisation and they will collect the saplings from the verge. Their goal is for each school in KZN to have a national emblem tree, the Yellowwood and to repopulate forests where the Cape parrot is found, which is on the critically endangered list.

“The aim of this project is to protect the plants and animals from being at risk of extinction. Wessa has approached us to supply them with saplings for their Eco-school project,” said Natalie. They have already received generous donations from Efekto and Farmyard organics. They urge the community of Yellowwood Park to work with them in helping the national tree from being endangered.
