Montclair Park upgrades bring new sporting facilities

The facility will provide outdoor gym activities for the community.

THE Montclair Recreation Park will soon have sporting equipment that will be used by the community.

The project falls under the Capital Infrastructure Programme (CIP) and has a budget of R1.9m.

The facility will provide the public an opportunity to participate in outdoor gym activities while enjoying the recreational space.

Ward 64 councillor Norman Gilbert said the CIP project is made available by eThekwini Municipality to ward councillors every year.

“This facility is open-air gym, and the old equipment has now been fully replaced. The outdated gym equipment was removed. The new equipment has been installed. We are now preparing to commission the facility. This forms part of a broader project that includes the tennis court located behind the park. The court has been surfaced, and a new fence will be erected around it,” said Gilbert.

Lighting system around the park will be upgraded

The first court will serve as a multipurpose facility for netball and basketball. Once the entire project is completed, an outdoor soccer field will also be introduced.

“We will also upgrade the lighting system to ensure that the area is well lit at night, allowing community members who want to exercise in the evening to continue using the facility. We hope the project will be completed within the next two weeks,” said Gilbert.

However, he said the equipment is not ready to be used as the concreate has not sealed properly.
