Police partner on drunk driving campaign

MOTORCYCLE units from the South African Police Service (SAP) and the Bluff’s Community Orientated Policing (COP) joined forces with Brighton Beach SAP’s liquor officer, Warrant Officer Theo Van Noordwyk on Friday, 20 September to campaign against drinking and driving.

1,000 brochures sponsored by Park Patrol and developed by Brighton Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, were distributed at the intersections of Tara and Grays Inn roads. The brochure covered aspects ranging from the downside of alcohol consumption, abuse and dependency; mixing alcohol with drugs; knowing limits and underage drinking and the impact it has on youth.

“If you see a person driving reckless or negligently or believe a driver is driving under the influence of alcohol, call 10111 and report them, giving the registration number, colour, make and model of the car and the direction the person is travelling in,” said Capt Le Roux.

Capt Le Roux thanks the SAP, COP, Park Patrol and W/O Van Noordwyk for the successful partnership.
