Allison Andrews, founder of Mediskills Healthcare Foundation, said that this day carried profound significance for individuals in the healthcare field.

“International Nurses Day highlights the vital role nurses and healthcare workers play. It is a time to celebrate their selfless service, raise awareness of their contributions and show deep appreciation for their continued dedication,” she said.

An important part of the programme was a ceremony involving the lighting of candles. During this part, student nurses stood and recited their professional pledge, simultaneously extending a flame to one another’s candles.

“Each light represents their hope for the future, the care they would offer and their steadfast commitment to their chosen profession,” said Andrews.

Beyond the symbolic ceremony, the nurses also benefited from the inspiring words delivered by guest speaker Sister Paddy Chettiar and were also generously provided gifts from Hollywoodbets.

Hollywoodbets backing

Zama Mhlongo, from Hollywoodbets HR portfolio, said that the company’s intention was to demonstrate its support for both the nursing profession itself, and the valuable work being carried out by the academy.

“Medical Skills Academy does commendable work, both in creating awareness around nursing but also in upskilling the community,” she said.

Andrews expressed her gratitude to Hollywoodbets for acknowledging the efforts put forth by both healthcare workers and students. She also thanked Sister Chettiar for taking the time to be there.
