Son, cousin get 20 years for father’s murder
Two men, Thembuyakhe Siyanda Dlamini and Senzo Innocent Ninela both 21-years-old were sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of ex-policeman W/O Bhekuyise Anthony Ngcobo on Thursday, 14 November.
The retired policeman was found with multiple stab wounds in his Atherstone Road, Montclair home on 25 November 2012. His son, Dlamini and cousin Ninela, who were arrested and charged with his murder, failed to re-appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on 27 May. They were re-arrested by Montclair SAP’s W/O Rico Naidoo on 10 and 11 November.
A joint plea agreement read out by their attorney, Thobile Sigcau revealed a grizzly account of events which led to Ngcobo’s death. Dlamini’s stepmother was portrayed as an instigator in an already troubled relationship between the father and son, telling Dlamini that his father and his stepson, referred to as ‘Happy’ were planning to kill him and make it look like a suicide.
The court heard that Ninela was the first to draw blood in self-defence, as Ngcobo was strangling him. It was also heard that it was suggested by the stepmother that Dlamini should ‘finish-off’ his father. W/O Naidoo is conducting further investigations. The first-time offenders were sentenced in Durban’s Regional Court by magistrate Anand Maharaj.
