Housebreaker has lunch after locking pensioner away
A HOUSEBREAKER assaulted an elderly woman and locked her in an outbuilding yesterday, 14 January before sitting down and making himself lunch in her Bluff home.

According to a broadcast by the Bluff’s Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU), at about 10.30am the woman, who lives alone, was punched in the face and beaten by her attacker, before being strangled and tied up. She was left bound in an outbuilding, while he returned to the home to collect items he meant to steal.
Deciding he had time to spare, her attacker sat down on her bed and ate some of her food. A neighbour, who frequently checks in, heard muffled shouts and noticing the open kitchen door, decided to investigate.
When he found the assailant in the bedroom, he seized him and tried to hold him in a headlock. While reaching for the panic button, he lost his grip on the man, who fled the scene.
Police, Community Orientated Policing, CCPU, Tactical Security and Bluff Community Medical Services responded to the scene. A search of the surrounding area was however, unsuccessful.
