Another week, another green mamba

The Bluff-based snake catcher Warren Dick made yet another green mamba capture, helping an Adams Mission family for free.

SNAKE season is definitely in full swing for The Bluff-based snake catcher, Warren Dick, who captured a 1.2m green mamba from a home in Adams Mission on October 21.

Spotting the snake

Dick initially received a call to help identify a snake on Wednesday morning. The woman on the phone said the snake was first spotted on October 16.

“It was seen climbing up the front door burglar bars, but quickly moved off. It was seen again on Saturday sticking its head out of the corner of the brickwork above the door,” recalled Dick.

That was until Wednesday, when the woman’s four-year old son and teenage daughter spotted the snake under the couch.

A kind heart to help

Dick initially tried to offer the job to another snake catcher nearby; none were available and the fees were too much for the family. He eventually decided to put in the miles and made the 33km drive to help the family out.

“However the other problem was, living in a rural area, she has no proper address and her daughter’s phone was broken and she was at work, so no location could be sent to me immediately. She had to try make her way back home from work in order to send me a pin location. She got home at 13:00 and sent me the location and I was off,” he said.

The daughter had managed to grab her brother and lock the mamba in the house until Dick was able to arrive. He said since the snake was trapped inside it made for a simple capture.

“Thank you to ARAF BP in Edwin Swales Drive for the R250 donation in fuel given to me every month which helps me do one or two calls like this for the poorer community, and also to the caller for the R300 donation. Every bit helps towards the next call,” said Dick
