Police campiagn cracks down on bullying
BRIGHTON Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux is tackling the social ills of bullying head-on, with a four phase anti-bullying campaign aimed at local schools.

“Aside from impacting learning and academic success, bullying creates an environment where stress and anxiety levels are high,” said Cpt Le Roux.
Phase one involved a booklet created by Cpt Le Roux and distributed to schools on Friday, 24 January, highlighting bullying prevention goals. “These prevention goals in no way replace existing programmes already in place. It provides alternatives they can implement should those in existence not work effectively. Each school’s demographics are different and therefore various programmes may be used until one or a combination is found to suit.”
Phases two and three entail of a road show, hosted by Cpt Le Roux in February and March aimed at grades R to 7, and crime awareness talks for the high-schoolers, with an emphasis on the criminal implications of assault, crimen injuria, harassment and cyber bullying.
In the final phase brochures will be sent to parents explaining the different categories of bullying and the impact bullying has on a child’s emotional state and social interactions.
“Thank-you to ADT Security which is sponsoring the brochures for this programme and the governing bodies, principals and staff of the 15 schools on the Bluff for allowing me the opportunity to host this programme,” said Cpt Le Roux.
