Siblings robbed of R50,000 cash in Mobeni

Two armed men robbed siblings of R50,000 in cash outside a bank in South Coast Road, Mobeni on Thursday, 6 February.

A woman alleges, she and her brother were on their way to deposit the money at the bank, when they were turned away by the teller, who said they needed proof of residence. The pair allegedly left the bank and as they were about to drive-off, two men waving a gun approached them. The men took the money along with their car keys before driving off in a grey Run-X.

The branch manager, who wished to remain unnamed, confirmed the account was closed and in order for it to be re-opened, proof of residence was required.

Lt Leopold Jojozi of Montclair SAP warns the public to be vigilant and be aware of their surroundings at all times when withdrawing money or making deposits. “The public needs to look-out for suspicious vehicles or people, especially when making visits to the bank,” said Jojozi.

On the same day, a tuckshop in Sigamoney Road, Clairwood was robbed of R7,000, cigarettes, airtime and a bag containing personal items. Two men posing as shoppers, produced a gun and turned on the attended before making off with the goods.
