The Department of Home Affairs, Brighton Beach cluster task team and Brighton Beach Vispol and detective team joined forces to conduct the operation, which began at 4am. More than 40 people were searched for proof of residency in two homes in Fynnlands.

Eight men and a woman who has a child, were arrested and charged in line with section 49(1)(a) Act 19 of 2004 of the Immigration Act. They appeared in court and will be deported to their respective native countries, which include Malawi and Zimbabwe.

“I am pleased with the results achieved through this three hour operation. The partnership with various role-players was fruitful and more of these operations within our policing area can be expected on a continuous basis,” said operational commander, Captain Sarel Kruger.
