Walk for freedom with Crow

Sponsor a walker and help Crow raise money for its baboon enclosure revamp project.

The Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) invites the public to be part of their walkers team for the East Coast Radio Big Walk on Sunday, 18 May.

This year’s theme ‘Walk to Freedom’ embodies the country’s two decades of freedom. Through the walk, Crow aims to raise awareness of the plight faced by baboons in South Africa, as “baboons have a right to a free life in the wild”. Some baboons are kept as pets, sold as part of the illegal pet trade or held captive for ‘muthi’.

Crow also hopes to raise R10,000 which will be used to fund their baboon enclosure revamp. The project has already seen the successful completion of its first stage and a number of baby baboons have taken up residency inside one of the enclosures. Phase 2 requires about R90,000 for its execution.

To be part of the Crow team, register for the Big Walk at www.bigwalk ecr.co.za and email your full name, the distance you will be walking, as well as confirmation of your registration to info@crowkzn.co.za. Entrants will then be added to the Crow team and are encouraged to acquire sponsors. The last day to register is Wednesday, 30 April.

If anyone wishes to sponsor a walker, log onto https://www.doit4charity.co.za/CROWs_Blazing_Baboon_Walkers_Team to make a pledge. Walkers who raise over R200 will receive a free Crow cap to wear on the day.

Members of the public are urged to join the 22 strong team for a fun-filled day in aid of Crow.
