Father tries to sell baby for drugs
Mother of the baby is in custody at Westville Prison for drug related charges.

FOUR MONTCLAIR SAP officers arrested two men, aged 19 and 20 for child trafficking, after they tried to sell a two-week-old baby in Clairwood on Saturday, 26 April.
Police officers were alerted by a member of the public, who claimed they saw two men attempting to sell a baby in Clairwood. The father of the baby and his brother were found under a bridge in South Coast Road smoking drugs. The baby was wrapped in a shawl and his condition was described by officers as ‘terrible’. “The child would have died if he was not found in time,” said Montclair SAP’s communications officer, Lt Leopold Jojozi.
The infant was taken to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital for treatment. He is currently housed at a place of safety on the Bluff.
A Rossburgh woman was caring for the baby after the father left him with her a week prior. The father decided to fetch the child from her on Saturday and walked to Clairwood and tried to sell the baby for R3,000. It is unknown how many couples the man approached.
The mother of the child was arrested after she gave birth, for drug related charges. She is remanded at Westville Prison.
