Hospital vandals warned
Wentworth Hospital issues rules and regulations for patients and visitors.

IN a bid to assist patients and visitors, Wentworth Hospital has listed some of its rules regulating vandalism, referrals, parking and documentation.
Taps, toilet seat covers, copper pipes and patients files commonly go missing at the hospital and are suspected stolen.
According to public relations officer, Carol Dlamini, this impacts negatively on patient care, good housekeeping, the budget and the look of the hospital.
“People found in unlawful possession of hospital property and in the act of vandalism will be charged as per the criminal procedure act of South Africa,” said Dlamini.
A referral system is in operation at Wentworth Hospital, with patients referred from local clinics or regional hospitals. “We encourage patients to make use of primary healthcare clinics in their areas to avoid long waiting times which may be experienced in the hospital.”
Changes have been implemented for parking to ensure the safety of those within the hospital.
People with emergencies, pregnant women who are driving and people with infants are able to park within the hospital grounds. If a pregnant woman is being driven onto the premises, the driver is allowed to drop her off, then park in the designated area outside, on the soccer field. All other patients can be dropped off at the entrance gate and all other vehicles must be parked on the soccer field. Vehicles with disabled stickers have a reserved parking area near the accident and emergency department.
Prospective patients must produce an identity document, proof of residential address and pension cards, unemployment letter from the department of labour and medical aid cards where applicable.
