House burglars on the prowl
Police warn the community to beware of a spike in housebreakings.
THERE has been an increase in housebreakings throughout the Bluff, according to Brighton Beach SAP and home owners are urged to take precautions.
Reports show most of these housebreakings take place between 8am and 2pm.
Sliding doors or small windows with no security features and the bottom half of stable doors are used as a means of access. Flat screen TVs, mobile phones, iPads and jewellery are the thieves’ targets.
Communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux urges community members to safeguard their homes with basic security and to make a list of electronic goods, along with serial numbers to assist police in tracing them should they be stolen.
She calls on residents to be vigilant of people walking or lingering nearby, especially in residential areas with stairs, sport fields, overgrown busy areas or nearby construction. “Take note of their appearances and immediately phone 10111 to make a report for response purposes.”
