Gardeners to dig into hydroponics

Margaret Everett gave some advice on the presentation of entries and adherence to the rules.

THE Natalia Garden Club president opened the May meeting with a prayer and welcomed everyone present.

It was a pleasure to also welcome new member, Kerry Lynch and three visitors, Lara Botha, Sandy Howes and Mr S Tegram.

The club trusts they enjoyed the morning and hopes to see them again.

There was a generous response to the plea for sandwich fillings for the Methodist Church’s sandwiches for schools. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Nora Brown showed specimens of Pentas and gave some advice on growing this hardy shrub. The speaker was John Pears, who entertained everyone with tales of the ‘old’ Bluff that he grew up on – how it has changed.

Birthday wishes and gifts went to those who had birthdays in May. Door and raffle prizes were won by Bev Beard and June Richards. The R100 club draw was won by Kamy Moodley, who kindly donated her share of the win to the sandwich club. Margaret Everett gave some advice on the presentation of entries and adherence to the rules.

The next meeting is on 12 June at the Pigeon Club, Tara Road, at 9.30am. Members can look forward to an interesting meeting. Tommy Everett will be talking about hydroponics for the home gardener.

The following members are to take along two plates of snacks each, with each plate to contain at least 10 portions: L Gradwell, J Taylor, L van Jaarsveld, L van Schalkwyk, N Venter, A Barker, M Auguste.
