WBC’s Andraschko reaches semis of PNB open singles

Two Fridays ago the snowball of R600 was not won as Johannes Moolman was not present.

OUT of the dozen or so entrants from Wanderers Bowling Club in the district men’s open singles, only Andy Andraschko, who was a late entry, has made it through to the play-offs where he holds a spot in the last four of the tournament.

Andy praised the greens at Berea where he won his first three matches on Saturday, then proceeded to Amanzimtoti where his first match was a walkover from Bruce Makkink, but he made no mistake in the second, thus securing himself a berth in the play-offs of the district’s most prestigious tournament. He will be playing at Toti on 6 July, where he is scheduled to meet Clinton Inglis. The club is very proud of him.

A little earlier in the week, the same Andy, together with Kim Hawkins and Nicola Bauristhene also won the finals of this year’s mixed drawn trips when he beat his wife Brenda with Ken Koch and Phil Pieterse in her side. The score was 24-18.

In the women’s senior singles, Gerrie Jackson made few mistakes when defeating Sonja Koch 21-5 to win that title.

The men played a few first round matches of their open singles for those who were not engaged in the district event. Bob Hayward beat Bill Addinall 21-6, Dave Faifer beat Ken Koch 21-4, Ron Jackson beat Johan Nel 21-8, Eric Smit beat Phil Pieterse 21-12 and Mike Flack beat Tom Simpkins 21-16.

In the Rawson’s fours skins on 15 June, Richard Hendicott, Jeff Bolt, Mitch Mitchley and Rob Atkinson were the only team to score full points and take the main prize and get themselves on the perch for next month. They had a 20+23.

Second place went to Shaun McAlister, Dave Faifer, Brian Hollis and Ron Gillespie with 16+9. They each won a R100 Spur voucher. Chris Klopper, Lionel de la Rey, Terry Brown and Gordon Chislett took third spot with 12+12, winning R50 Wimpy vouchers. First session went to Steve Van Rooyen, Bob Hayward, Ken Koch and Lofty Cawthorne with a 10+20. Second session went the way of Queensburgh visitors Mark and Larraine Vermeulen with Rod and Pam Kitchen with a 10+18. Norman Moore, Phil Pieterse, Val McCaffrey and Johan Nel took the sportsman’s prize with a 2-27. All other competing teams won John Dory meal discount vouchers.

Richard Hendicott and ‘Team Hendicott’ won both 60/40 boards with Arnie Harper and Mary Rust taking the minor offerings. Two raffles were drawn – Lorraine Du Preez winning the R100 Spur voucher and Mitch Mitchley wining the ‘duck a l’orange’.

At Lyn Wild’s pairs on 18 June, a decent field of 20 teams competed. Newly together again Chris Pozyn and his girlfriend Lorraine Smith won the event with a commendable 4+19. First session went the way of Bluffites Dave Rowe and Janice Rodgers with a plus 10. Ken Thomas and George Harris won the second with a plus 15. Sonja Koch won the meat raffle and Lofty (R40) and Margaret (R20) took the 60/40 board offerings. The lotto was a carryover.

Members must note that this coming Friday, 27 June the ever popular pub quiz will take place in Vic’s bar at 7pm after the snowball and meat draw. The winning foursome will receive a leg of lamb each. Seating will be on a first come, first served basis. You will be allowed as many players as you want in a side but only four players per side will receive a prize, so preferably get your foursome sides together. The first two teams and the last team will get a prize. Entry is free and food will be on sale from the kitchen. Compere is Eric ‘Reds’ Redman. There will be 60 true or false questions from different categories. Music will be by ‘Reds’ after prize giving. Get your seats early to avoid disappointment.
