Lofty Cawthorne sails into seniors semis

Several club competitions were played during the week or over the weekend.

WANDERERS Bowling Club veteran bowler, Lofty Cawthorne won all three of his district senior singles matches last Saturday to advance into the Sunday play-offs, where again he was successful with both games – one of which was against team mate Dave Faifer who had also won on Saturday – to advance to the semi finals of the event to be played next Sunday. So with Andy Andraschko in the men’s open singles (due to face Des Hean) and Lofty in the men’s senior singles (due to face Sandy Miller), there is much to be said for good representation from the club in the way of support from members when they take the field next Sunday at Amanzimtoti BC. The club wishes them both good bowling.

This coming Friday, 4 July, two Soccer World Cup qualifying games will be shown on the big TV with sound at 6pm and at 9.45pm. ‘Memory Stick’ will provide music after the games, and the normal raffle and snowball will take place at half time of the first match.

Saturday, 5 July is Durban July handicap day. All races can be watched live, as well as the women’s Wimbledon singles final plus two World Cup qualifying games as well as the Sharks rugby match against the Cheetahs at 7.10pm. There will also be a bring and braai in the late afternoon. These are good reasons to support your club and indulge in all the activities.

Not that the squash courts will be closed all week due to painting. Also, due to the running of the Dan Draper tournament between Monday, 7 June and Friday, 11 June, parking will be limited so members are requested to park on the tennis court or around the squash court area.
