Stainbank WI celebrates 42 years

After a delicious tea and lots of cake, many thanks to all who helped and supplied the snacks, it was on with the show and what a show Trish Braum had in sort for us this year.

STAINBANK Women’s Institute (WI) president, Arlene Greenfield was welcomed back from her holiday and she in turn welcomed all visitors, especially the ‘top table’ as executive members joined in on this special day.

After some domestic news the party started with the presentation of the prizes that members had won through entering the competitions during the year. Sheila von der Son won a prize for home produce, merit, craft, best bloom, best orchid and handicraft.

Elaine de Jager won for agri and horti, homemaking and best rose. Barbara IIsley won adult education and Beattie Johnston Webber for floral. Well done members. A special prize went to Beattie Johnson Webber for being the most enthusiastic member and a special star prize for Sheila von der Zon. Who else, but Shirley Kruger could get the wooden spoon.

Heather Sumpton did the honors by cutting the birthday cake. Badges were also handed out to members who had long service at the institute. Congratulations. There were lucky lots of raffles, many thanks to all who supplied.

Every year she manages to come up with a new theme. Celtic dreams, all those wonderful songs from Ireland and Scotland . The Stainbank choir were really in good voice. Thanks to Trish and the choir. During the last part of the show all the members joined in a sing along. It was great fun and everyone enjoyed it and could have carried on. Thank you choir for all your hard work during the year. Members were reminded that the next meeting in August will be a group meeting with competitions. The club looks forward to seeing all institute members on 5 August at 9am for 9.30am.
