STRONG winds and thunderstorms are being experienced across KZN, with reports of rain and hail falling in parts of Montclair, The Bluff, Yellowwood Park and nearby areas.

Residents have been urged to exercise caution as some roads in Merebank and Wentworth are waterlogged.

Spokesperson for PT Alarms Dhevan Govindasamy said residents should remain alert to debris and loose objects on roads as well as possible power outages from wind damage.

Yesterday, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Level 2 impact-based warning for damaging winds for KZN.

Meanwhile, SAWS advises that severe thunderstorm activity remains active across parts of KZN, including eThekwini.

Residents are warned that further heavy downpours, frequent lightning, damaging winds, and localised flooding remain possible throughout the remainder of the day.

Precautionary safety measures:
• Avoid affected routes: Do not attempt to drive through flooded sections of the N3 or any low-lying roads. Seek safe, alternative routes.
• Drive with extreme caution: Motorists must reduce speed, switch on headlights, and maintain safe following distances on wet and waterlogged surfaces.
• Stay clear of waterways: The public are strictly advised not to cross swollen rivers, streams, or overflowing stormwater channels, on foot or in vehicles.
• Limit travel: Where possible, residents are encouraged to stay indoors until conditions stabilise.
