FOLLOWING an executive committee meeting held with Wentworth Hospital board, chairperson of the board Diana Hoorzuk confirmed that from today (September 15) elderly, disabled and frail patients can make use of the north gate at the hospital.

Closure of the north gate initially

The hospital’s north gate (on The Bluff side) was permanently closed on September 1 with the hospital citing the decision as a way to strengthen security and improve access control within the hospital premises. The decision had sparked a frenzy on social media, with many residents saying that the decision brings on a lot of challenges, especially with elderly patients.

Ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon shared the news of the board’s decision.

“Security personnel have been specifically instructed accordingly, and the matter was raised again at an EXCO meeting yesterday where security was once again reminded of these instructions,” she said.

Report if you are being turned away

Hoorzuk said that she would personally check this morning to ensure this new allowance is being implemented.

She added that if you are elderly, frail or disabled and refused access through the north gate, you can contact her via WhatApp only on 083 784 4208.

Solomon stressed to only use this number if you fall within the categories. She also expressed her gratitude to Hoorzuk for her continued intervention and assistance.
