Kloeks enlighten WI of escape artist badger’s escapades

THE August meeting of Woodlands Women’s Institute (WI) was opened by president, Maureen Lavis, who welcomed all members and three visitors and asked everyone to join in the saying of the Mary Stewart Collect while remembering members, family and friends who were ill.

After tea and with thanks to all on tea duty, Maureen introduced guest speaker Lis Kloek and her husband Wim Kloek who set up equipment for a wonderful video of Stoffel the escape artist, a badger who manages to get out of his enclosure no matter what obstacles were put in place to keep him in.

Lis also included many of the beautiful photographs she has taken recently and had everyone amazed at the patience and steady hand required to take some of these photos.

Competition results were read out as follows: Ad ed: First May Scott, second Sandra Naidoo, third Dawn Cowan. Agri-horti: First May Scott, second Jean Smith, third Linda Gibbs. Craft: First Martie Caldwell, second Sheila Mathieson, third May Scott.

Floral: First Martie Caldwell, second Heather Deme’.

Handicraft: First May Scott, second Hazel Deme’ and Jean Smith, third Martie Caldwell.

Home products: First Martie Caldwell, second Sandra Naidoo, third Linda Gibbs. Merit: First May Scott, second Sandra Naidoo, third Sheila Mathieson.

Embroidery: First May Scott, second Sheila Mathieson, third Koulla Tsouris. Best rose: First Phyllis Parsonage, second Sandra Naidoo, third Hazel Deme’. Best orchid: First Phyllis Parsonage, second Hazel Deme’, third Koulla Tsouris.

Best specimen: First Phyllis Parsonage, second Linda Gibbs, third Hazel Deme’.

Raffle and money board winners were announced and Maureen closed the meeting with the women’s institute prayer and wished everyone a good weekend.

Woodlands WI meets every first Friday of the month at 9.30am in the Montclair Recreation hall, Wood Road, Montclair and welcomes all to attend.
