SUN turns advertising support into giving back
The Southlands Sun donated much-needed items to two local charities as part of its charitable features this year.
THE Southlands SUN is giving back to the community, with two local NPOs benefiting from this year’s charitable features.
The wildlife rehabilitation centre, Crow, and Isaiah 54 Children’s Sanctuary were selected as the beneficiaries of this year’s initiative, which sees a portion of the revenue generated from special features used to purchase urgently needed items for local organisations.

The A-Z Child Abuse feature was published in May to coincide with Anti-Child Abuse Month. Advertisers were invited to sponsor an alphabet letter, with each letter carrying an important message reminding children of their rights and helping to raise awareness about child abuse.
The SUN’s Adopt-a-Pet feature was then published in August, highlighting animals in need of loving homes while also supporting the work of animal welfare organisations.
According to SUN sales manager, Shereen Maharaj, a percentage of the revenue generated from the two features was used to purchase items from the organisations’ wish lists.
“We want to thank all the advertisers who supported these features because, through their support, they also contributed towards helping the chosen organisations,” said Maharaj.
She said both organisations were asked to provide wish lists detailing their most urgent needs, and the goods were purchased accordingly.
SUN staff members recently visited the organisations to hand over the donated goods.
Glynnis Daunth of Isaiah 54 Children’s Sanctuary explained that the house currently has 15 residents and it can become chaotic at times. “We try to provide a loving, caring household to the children, but there are always goods we need, nappies, formula, clothes, the list is endless,” she said.
